THE COMMONWEALTH AT 75

Celebrating the Commonwealth

The modern Commonwealth is a voluntary association of 56 independent countries. But more than that, it is a set of shared values and principles, which aims to deliver peace and prosperity to its member states and provide a beacon of integrity and equality to the wider world. The Commonwealth at 75 campaign spans the organisation’s history, from its early incarnations to its present-day operations, a global collective committed to addressing the challenges and opportunities of today and tomorrow.

The roots of the modern family of nations trace back to such landmark legislative acts and proposals as the 1926 Balfour Declaration, the 1931 Statute of Westminster and, of course, the London Declaration of 1949, which formalised the organisation’s democratic structure and egalitarian outlook. This spirit of international co-operation sustains to this day, as the Commonwealth continues to evolve – rooted in history and its enduring values and driven by its member states’ bold future aspirations.
